Espressif is best known for the ESP32, a low-cost system on chip that pairs a microcontroller with Wi-Fi and Bluetooth radios. The family has grown to include parts with Bluetooth LE 5, IEEE 802.15.4 for Thread and Zigbee, and vector instructions for on-device machine learning. The chips sit inside countless smart plugs, lights, sensors and hobby projects, and they are the usual answer when a product needs Wi-Fi at the lowest bill-of-materials cost.
The company maintains ESP-IDF, an open-source development framework, along with Matter, Rainmaker cloud and AI libraries. Its position in the market comes from price and ecosystem breadth; the considerations for a product team are supply-chain and regulatory requirements in some markets, and the fact that Wi-Fi is rarely the right radio for battery-powered devices.
